Galen Dean Blenn, 74, a lifelong resident of Westmoreland, Ks., died Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Mercy Health Center of Manhattan.
Galen was born March 21, 1932 in Westmoreland, the son of William Edward and Erma Mae (Gordon) Blenn. He attended school in Westmoreland and graduated from Westmoreland High School. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during the U.S. Occupation of Germany, and was a past member of the Westmoreland American Legion. On September 2, 1956, Galen married Carol Sue Sinkins in Emmett, Ks. She survives of the home.
Galen was a very hard worker all of his life. He owned and operated the Galen Blenn Trucking Company, which he continued to work at and operate until his death. He was very dedicated to his family and his work. Galen was a very good hearted person and helped people in many ways. He spent most of his life working in his trucking business, and very much appreciated the relationships he had with his truck drivers for so many years. In his younger years, he loved to hotrod around and drag race in his ‘55 Chevy. Mostly, Galen loved to spend time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Blenn, of Westmoreland, Ks.; one daughter, Debbi Decker, and her husband Jody, of Westmoreland, Ks.; one sister, Lucille Steele, and husband, Howard, of Clay Center, Ks.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, David Blenn; and two brothers, Louis and Arland Jay Blenn.
Funeral services for Mr. Blenn will be Monday, March 19, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at the Westmoreland United Methodist Church, with Rev. Laura Burnett officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Westmoreland City Cemetery. He will lie in-state Sunday, March 18, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Chapel of Westmoreland, where the family will greet friends during a visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
