Julie Louis “Applegate” Eichem, 67, of Wamego, passed away on March 18, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. She was born on May 18, 1939, at Genn Hospital in Wamego, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh Fredrick and Lena Margaret (Ault) Applegate. She attended school in Wamego. Mrs. Eichem worked for twenty-seven years at the Riley County Public Works and then worked at the State of Kansas – Adjunct Generals Office for approximately five years, retiring in 2004. Julie married Donald Dale Eichem on June 9, 1956 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego. He survives of the home. Mrs. Eichem was very active in the Kansas Emergency Management Association. She was also a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, the Wamego Historical Society, the Red Hat Society and the L.A.L. Club. She was appointed the Louisville City Clerk for several years. Along with her husband, Don, she is survived by two sons, Dan Eichem and his wife, Donnis, Wamego, and Tony Eichem and his wife, Lea Ann, Belvue; one daughter, Joanie Cook and her husband, Mike, Abilene; three grandchildren: Jayme Cook, Jason Eichem and Chris Cook; a great-grandchild due in May, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Eichem will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Laclede Cemetery. She will lie in-state on Tuesday after 1:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends at a visitation from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wamego Historical Society or the Wamego Friends of the Park and they may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, P. O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
