Jean Marie Prockish

Jean Marie (Bates) Prockish, 74, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 after a short illness. She was born on July 15, 1932, to Lloyd and Della (Botts) Bates in Wamego. She graduated from Wamego High School in 1950. On June 6, 1951, she was united in marriage to Eugene Prockish at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego. They shared over 55 years together. Jean lived in Louisville all her married life. Mrs. Prockish was a homemaker, a member of LAL Club of Louisville, Vice President of Wamego Dutch Mill Bowling League, City Treasurer of Louisville, and served on the Funeral Committee of St. Bernard’s Church. She loved painting ceramics and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include: her husband Eugene of the home; two sons, Steve Prockish and wife Des, and David Prockish and wife Connie of Louisville, KS; three daughters, Linda Prockish of Manhattan, KS, Marilyn Hazen and husband Gwynn of Frankfort, KS, and Brenda Whearty and husband Les of Wamego, KS; her seven grandchildren, Misty and Chris Pratt of Wellsville, KS, Brandon and Cyndee Washington of Topeka, KS, Meghan and Dennis Kearn of Wamego, Travis Prockish of Louisville, Greg Hazen of Frankfort, KS, Chelsea and Darren Prockish of Louisville, KS; her four great-grand children, Rylee and Ashlyn Pratt, Brooke Prockish, Kaelee Washington, and a fifth great-grandchild due in April; her three brothers, Jim Bates of Nixa, MO, Tom Bates of Lawrence, and Bob Bates of Manhattan, KS; and her two sisters, Bonnie Siebert and Joyce Page of Topeka, KS. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a brother William L. Bates. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church on Monday March 26, at 10:30 a.m., with burial following at St. Bernard’s Cemetery. A visitation will be at Stewart’s Funeral Home on Sunday March 25, from 6-7:30 p.m., with the Rosary starting at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Wamego Community Health Ministry, or St. Bernard’s Building Fund and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
