May Louise (Nihart) Line Canipe

May Louise (Nihart) Line Canipe, 84, a longtime resident of the Wamego, KS area, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 in Topeka, KS where she had been a resident for many years. May Louise was born in Topeka, KS on March 21, 1926, the daughter of Charles Harry and Myrtle May (Ackley) Nihart. She attended grade school in the Belvue area and graduated from Wamego High School in the class of 1944. Following high school, she attained her teaching certificate and taught school in Wamego for a short time. She married William “Wimp” Line on August 12, 1944. They later divorced, and she married George Canipe on October 16, 1993. He preceded her in death in 1996. She worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper at the Wamego Medical Clinic for several years in the 1960’s, and many years in the payroll department of Stormont-Vail Hospital of Topeka until her retirement. May Louise was a past member of the First United Methodist Church of Wamego, where she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher for many years in the 1960’s. She loved to go to square dances, traveling to places with her husband George, and really enjoyed being with children. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Steve Arseneau of St. Anne, IL; two grandsons and their wives, Rusty and Josie Trudeau, and Bronc and Elizabeth Trudeau; one step-grandson and his wife, Todd and Cindy Arseneau; 8 great-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 10:30am at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Mrs. Canipe will lie in-state beginning at 1:00pm Monday, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, where family will greet friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Burial will be in the Wamego Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to PRN Home Health and Hospice of Wamego, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547.
