Douglas "Doug" S. York

Doug S. York, 65, of Topeka, formerly of the St. George area passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at St. Francis Health Center, in Topeka, Kansas. Doug was born in Manhattan, Kansas on February 22, 1946, the son of Dudley M. and Gladys F. (Smith) York. He was a resident of the rural Manhattan area attending St. George High School, graduating in 1964 before serving in the U.S. Army from 1964-1971. He married Deanna Sue (Renyer) on June 29, 1991 in Topeka. She survives of the home. Doug worked in route sales as a bread man for 40 years until his retirement in 2008. He worked for Butterkrust Bread for 23 years before working for Rainbo and Wonder for 17 years. Doug moved to Topeka in the mid 1980’s before moving to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1992 for 11 years. He and Deanna moved back to Topeka in 2003. Doug enjoyed bowling and hunting. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He was one of the original volunteer firemen of the Blue Township Fire Department and was also a member of the American Legion Post #58 of Topeka. Mr. York is survived by his wife Deanna, of Topeka; 2 sons: Jason York and wife Fran of Knoxville, Tennessee and Justin York and wife Krys of St. George, Kansas; 2 brothers: Thomas York and Sandra of Wichita, Kansas and Doug’s twin brother Dwight York and wife Joyce, of Wamego; a sister-in-law, Karen York and several nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Gladys and one brother Bill in 2009. Funeral services for Mr. York will be Monday, February 28, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial will follow in the St. George Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. George Cemetery Fund, and may be left in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 48, 66547.
