Glenn “Max” Hosler, 87, lifetime resident of Wamego, passed away Wednesday May 2, at Wamego City Hospital.
Born on January 14, 1920 in Keats, Kansas, he was the son of Glenn and Myrtle (Johnson) Hosler. Max attended Wamego schools and graduated from Wamego High School in 1938. On June 2, 1940, Max married Annamary Moore. He then enlisted with the United States Army, in 1943, and served his country during WWII with the 182nd Medical Composite Unit in Okinawa. Following his military service, Max returned to Wamego, working as a meat cutter at the Trivett’s Grocery Store and later at Dick’s Thriftway until his retirement after 50 years as a meat cutter.
Max was very proud of his service to his country, and was very active for over 60 years in the Wamego American Legion, Harold Johnson Post 172, and the VFW Post 1258. He was a true patriot and was committed to raising the American flag every day and placing flags at Wamego City Cemetery every Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, as long as his health permitted.
Max is survived by: his wife, Annamary, of the home, Wamego,KS; his two daughters, Sherry Brown and husband Delbert of Topeka, KS, and Ramona Ellison and husband Norith of Little Rock Ark; his brother Lyle Hosler and wife Marge of Wamego, KS; his three grandchildren, Dallas and Darren Brown and Chianne Copel; and his eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother Don Hosler and a sister Ann Lintz.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday May 5, at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial will follow in Wamego Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Hosler will lie in-state at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. Friday, where a visitation will be held Friday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to The American Legion or Wamego Senior Citizens Center, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O.
