Mary Jane (Lauer) Chilcott, 57, of Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Wamego City Hospital, following her long battle with cancer.
Mary Jane was born August 8, 1953 in Manhattan, KS, the daughter of James and Jean (Dekat) Lauer. She was raised in Flush, KS where she attended grade school and graduated from Westmoreland High School. On August 17, 1970, she married Robert Theodore Chilcott, Jr. They later divorced. She was a dietician at Dechairo Hospital in Westmoreland for 20 years, where she gave special care to the patients and their families. She also worked at Dyers IGA, McCall Pattern Co. and Dillons East.
She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Flush Alter Society. She was also a member of Future Homemakers of America, Jaycee Jaynes and a devoted member of Westmoreland Recreation Commission. She loved coaching her children’s ball teams and never missed her children’s or grandchildren’s activities. Mary Jane was a very outgoing person and made friends easily. She enjoyed her family and friends, playing cards, board games, cooking, quilting, watching sports, and loved the Kansas Jayhawks. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with family and adored her grandchildren, who loved her very much and will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her mother Jean Lauer of Westmoreland; three children and their spouses, Angela Kay Bensouda (Aziz) of Shawnee, KS, Jeanna Marie Eichem (Ted), and Jason Robert Chilcott (Nicole) of Westmoreland, KS; three grandchildren, Joceline Marie Eichem, Harrison Robert Aziz Bensouda, Cameron James Chilcott; one sister, Brenda Heston (James) of Wamego, KS; four brothers, Larry Lauer (Pam), Alan Lauer, Robert Lauer (Lisa) all of Westmoreland, Steve Lauer (Patty Larson) of Emporia, KS; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, father, and sister-in-law Carmela Sue “Susie” Lauer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 12 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Flush, KS. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mary Jane will lie in-state beginning Monday at 1:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego and visitation following until 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested: St. Joseph’s Church; USD 323 Scholarship Fund; KU Endowment-Blood & Marrow Transplant Program at KU Med., left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
