Betty Ann Nixon, 58, of rural Zeandale, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Betty was born on April 7, 1953 in Stafford, Kansas, the daughter of Rolla E. “Dink” and Betty F. (Minks) Durham. She grew up in Turon, Kansas and graduated from Fairfield High School before attending Kansas State University. Since 1971, Betty lived in the Manhattan and Zeandale areas. Betty married Bill Nixon on August 1, 1973 in Zeandale, Kansas, they later divorced. She was a homemaker and farmer and was also a member of Farm Bureau, Kansas Livestock Association and the Zeandale Community Church. Betty enjoyed helping her neighbors and being outdoors. She loved being able to farm with her son Brian and loved her cattle and dogs. Betty is survived by her son Brian S. Nixon of Zeandale, KS and his fiancé Joy Johnson and her son Landon of Clay Center, KS; a daughter Bonnie Jean Maize and husband Will, of Rossville, KS; a sister Susan of Phoenix, AZ; her parents “Dink” Durham of Cunningham, KS and Betty Durham of Hutchinson, KS; 2 grandchildren Colin and Aidan Maize and many family and friends. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held Monday, April 18, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery south of Zeandale. The casket will remain closed and there is no formal visitation planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zeandale Community Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, 66547.
