Kimber Eugene Macht, 79, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at his home in Topeka.
Kimber was born on October 27, 1931 on the family farm in rural Westmoreland, Kansas, the son of Peter E. and Edith L. Macht. He graduated from Wamego Rural High School in 1949 before enlisting and serving in the United States Coast Guard. After serving in the Coast Guard he returned to Kansas and attended Washburn University where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Kimber then moved to California and in 1957 began working for IBM in human resources where he worked up until his retirement. He lived in Bethel Island, California following his retirement before moving back to Topeka in 2004. Kimber loved going hunting and fishing and enjoyed building custom fishing rods. He also was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in California.
Mr. Macht is survived by one sister: Jo Ann Lauffer, of Topeka; two nieces: Kim Lauffer, of Topeka and Carol Lauffer, of Rossville, one great-nephew: Casey O’Brien and one great-niece: Kelli O’Brien. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather at Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, for a visitation on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Society of America, Inc. or Midland Hospice and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, 66547.
