Delta Louise Arnold

Sun City, Arizona-Delta Louise (Julien) Arnold, 96, passed away Tuesday May 22, 2007 in Sun City, Arizona. She was in her Care Center Room along side her husband J.W. at Royal Oaks Retirement Center when she peacefully passed away in her sleep. She was surrounded by her daughters Jane Arnold Jurik and Sue Arnold Dyke and her granddaughter Jennifer Jurik. Born on November 27, 1910, the daughter of Bertha (Johnson) and Louise E. Julien, on the Julien family farm one mile south of Wamego, she was the youngest of three daughters. Delta graduated from Wamego High School in 1929 and later began teaching grade school at the age of 19 in the one room schools of Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee Counties. She later attended Kansas State Teacher’s College at Emporia where she joined Sigma Sorority. She was teaching in Gardner when she and J.W. Arnold married in 1938. Delta grew up in the Wamego Methodist Episcopal Church (now United Methodist). She lived the remainder of her life in Wichita where she was a full time mother and homemaker until retiring with J.W. to Sun City, AZ in 1971. They were active members of East Heights Methodist Church in Wichita and J.W. was employed at Boeing Airplane Company. Delta suffered a massive stroke on May 12. Delta is survived by: her husband, J.W. Arnold of Sun City, AZ; her daughters, Jane Jurik of New Orleans, and Sue Dyke and husband Terry of Shawnee, OK; her sister Mildred Andrick; her grandchildren, Jennifer Jurik of Tacoma, WA, Matthew Jurik and wife Melissa of The Woodlands, TX, David Dyke and wife Dawn of Jenks, OK and Andrew Dyke of Meeker, OK; and her great grandchildren Abigail Lane Dyke, Jacob Julien Dyke and Lena Ray Jurik. Funeral Services were held May 24 at First Christian Church of Sun City, AZ. Burial will be at Wamego City Cemetery, Tuesday June 5, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a family gathering at Stewart Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. that morning.
