Amanda Helen (Meyer) Brase

Amanda Helen Brase, 83, a lifelong resident of Alma, Kansas, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Alma Manor. Amanda was born June 8, 1927 on her family farm near Alma, the daughter of Fred H. and Malinda S. (Steege) Meyer. She attended District 7 Rural Grade School and graduated from Alma High School in 1945. On August 24, 1947, she married Carl S. Brase at St. John Lutheran Church of Alma. He preceded her in death, December of 2008. She was a devoted mother and homemaker, and also worked part-time at Wamego Floral Greenhouse, Vilven’s Greenhouse and Bit O’Gold Cheese in Wamego. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church. Amanda enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, sewing, telling stories of her past, and loved being with her grandchildren. Survivors include her two sons, Don Brase and his wife, June, of Wamego, Ed Brase of Westmoreland; a brother, Fred Meyer and his wife, JoAnn, of Alma; her son-in-law, Bill Waters of Topeka; five grandchildren, Brenda and Amy Waters, Sheri Auten, Paul and Daniel Brase; and eight great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Brandon, Ryan, Brady, Nicholas, Kalley, Danika, Klaudia. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Waters in 1987; two brothers, Warren and Chester Meyer; and one sister, Ester Sweeney. Funeral services for Mrs. Brase will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church of Alma. Burial will follow in the Alma City Cemetery. She will lie in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, where family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, P.O.
