Vern R. Harrison, 91, of Louisville, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at Wamego City Hospital of Wamego.
Vern was born June 22, 1919 in Belvue, Kansas, the son of Fredrick J. and Ethelda (Shehi) Harrison. He attended Louisville Grade and High Schools. Following school, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for several years, during which time he met his wife to be, Camilla Spencer. He and Camilla married July 2, 1940 in Panguitch, Utah, and later returned to Louisville to make their home. Camilla preceded him in death in October of 1988.
Vern worked at Morton Motor Company in Wamego for 15 years until his retirement. Prior to Morton’s, he worked for the Wille brothers delivering propane in the area, and also worked for the City of Wamego Parks and Cemetery Maintenance Department. Vern enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and spending a lot of time fishing in Rock Creek from his back yard. He also loved to spend time in his flower gardens
Survivors include his daughters, Janice Mullins of Springfield, Illinois, and Valjean Young of Wichita, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jay J. Harrison, and his brother, Robert Harrison.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with the Rev. Dr. Tony Mattia officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the funeral service. He will lie in-state at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Louisville City Cemetery and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, P.O.
