Judy Peddicord, 85, of Wamego, Kansas died June 15, 2011 at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center in Wamego.
She was born May 28, 1926 to Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Cazier in Wamego, Kansas. She attended local schools, graduating from Wamego High School in 1944. She attended Kansas State University for two years where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. Judy lived on a farm while married to Leo Peddicord for 41 years. She was a typical farmwife doing things like gardening, feeding hired men, taking lunches to the field, and dressing chickens. She was a member of the Wamego Study Club, the First Presbyterian Church, and P.E.O. At one time she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Vermillion HDU. She taught music at both Belvue Grade School and Louisville Grade School several years. She spent most of the last twenty-some years in Topeka, Kansas where, in her 60’s, completed a degree in Criminal Justice at Washburn University. She was a volunteer at the Topeka Correctional Facility for women, playing the piano and leading singing. While in Topeka, she belonged to the Topeka Newcomers, P.E.O., and various bridge clubs. She loved flowers and always had a beautiful deck and back yard full of flowers. Judy also loved traveling. She and her daughter, Lana, went on several vacations together, including two trips to Guam. She had other travel companions for cruises and various trips at home and abroad.
Judy is survived by two children, Lana Northup of Wamego and Jim Peddicord of the Philippines; daughter-in-law Mary Peddicord of Guam; grandchildren Tasi and Jon Peddicord from Guam and Jeremy Northup from Wamego; three great-grandchildren, Lily of Guam, Trevor Northup from Wamego, and Rylan Northup from Manhattan, and a sister, Joyce Cazier from Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jim Cazier.
A memorial service for Judy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20 at the First Presbyterian Church of Wamego. Inurnment will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery with a luncheon for all friends and family in the church hall after the cemetery service. A visitation will be Sunday, June 19 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego.
