Karla Jean Richter, 51, of St. George, Kansas passed away Friday, June 24, 2011 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, in Kansas City, Kansas.
Karla was born July 15, 1959 in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Eldon and LeAnne (Schmidt) Janssen. She attended schools in Wamego, graduating from Wamego High School in 1977, before attending Kansas State University and later obtaining a certificate as an EMT from Manhattan Area Technical College. On September 10, 1983, she married Kurt Richter in Wamego, Kansas he preceded her in death on June 11, 1993.
Karla was a homemaker but had owned and operated a wheat weaving company in St. George, called Karla’s Kountry Krafts for several years. Karla loved spending time with her granddaughter and was a loving caregiver to animals and people alike. She enjoyed the outdoors, cooking but most of all enjoyed life.
Karla is survived by her two daughters: Sarah Richter and fiancé Damion Parks-Rice, of St. George, KS and Chelsea Richter of Manhattan, KS; her father, Eldon Janssen of Henderson, NV; her mother, LeAnne Leonard of Wamego, KS; her grandmother, Lena Schmidt of Wamego, KS; her two sisters: Kim Doucet and husband Mitch and Keri Longaway and husband Adam; her granddaughter: Sabrina and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Kurt, her stepfather Edward Leonard, one brother Keith Janssen and several loved ones on her husband’s side.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Karla will lie in-state beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday up until service time. In leiu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Pottawatomie County Caring Hearts Humane Society and Angel Flight Central and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
