Ronald “Ron” John Winterman, 42, formerly of the Wamego area, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 as the result of injuries sustained during an automobile accident, outside of Greeley, KS.
Ron was born April 3, 1969 in Leavenworth, KS. He was the son of John T. and Dorothy E. Winterman. Ron lived in the Wamego and Kansas City areas for over 30 years. In 1987, Ron graduated from Wamego High School. He then attended Johnson County Community College before enlisting in the United States Navy. After the Navy he moved back to Kansas and attended The Kansas State University-Salina, College of Technology and Aviation. Ron enjoyed traveling and loved computer technology. In high school he ran track and cross country and still enjoyed running today.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Winterman, of Wamego, KS; his sister Susan Hellman and husband Lee, of Wamego, KS; one nephew, Collin Hellman and three nieces, Haley, Olivia and Sophia Hellman, all of Wamego, KS; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father John, in 2006.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ron will lie in-state at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, with a Rosary being recited at 3:00 p.m. The family will greet friends during a visitation following from 3:30 until 5:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to USD #320, to support the track & field and cross country teams or to the charity of donor’s choice.
