Robert (Bob) Rogers, formerly of Wamego, KS, passed away after a short illness July 14, 2011 in San Angelo TX. He was born on Feb 2, 1920 in Kansas City, MO. He was 91 years young. His parents were William C. Rogers and Evelyn M. Christian, originally of Clyde KS. He has one brother, The Honorable Richard D. Rogers, of Topeka. In about 1930 the Rogers moved to Wamego, where Bill Rogers owned the dry goods store. Bob graduated from Wamego High School in 1937 and from Kansas State University in 1941. He joined the US Army in August of 1941 and commenced on a 20 year adventure, serving in Brazil, San Antonio and New York City. He was a veteran of World War II and of the Korea War. He met the love of his life, Marie Ann Lane, in New York City and married her in 1949. She joined him in his adventures in Japan, Denver, CO and Monterey, CA, North and South Carolina. While in the Army they started a family with a son, Rex, and a daughter, Eve. Bob retired from the Army in 1961 to Eustis, FL where he worked for the State of Florida. He retired from the State of Florida in 1982, and he and Marie embarked on more adventures traveling around the US.
Bob’s life was molded by the Great Depression and by World War II. He set the example for his children by living a life of steadfast duty to God, Country and Family. He taught his family the value of a good education and instilled in them the work ethic necessary to succeed in life.
Bob joined Marie in heaven because of his faith in Jesus Christ, Our Savior. Marie passed away in 2002 after 53 years of marriage. He is survived by his brother, Dick of Topeka, son, Rex and grandson, Thomas of Eustis, FL,; his daughter, Eve, her husband Robert Hogue, granddaughter Katie Moore, all of San Angelo, TX. Bob was like a grandfather to Robert’s two sons, Matt and Aaron, also in Texas. Bob also is survived by three great-grand children.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will be private, in Wamego City Cemetery. The family will greet friends during a visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
