R. E. “Buck” Bronaugh, 82, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka following surgery.
He was born September 26, 1928, in Silver Lake, Kansas, to Lester T. and Esther (Look) Bronaugh. Buck spent most of his life in the Maple Hill and Paxico areas attending Maple Hill Schools and graduating from Maple Hill High School in 1947. He also graduated from Tulsa Barber College in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On March 6, 1948, he married Joan M. Buchmeier in Topeka, Kansas, she survives.
He worked as a barber for several years and for Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Topeka, for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. He lived in Paxico many years before moving to Wamego, Kansas in 1990. “Buck” was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wamego. He volunteered several years at the Wamego Thrift Shop, a mission project of his church. He also enjoyed yard work and sports and was an avid K-State fan. Buck also loved horses.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan (Buchmeier) Bronaugh, of the home; four sons: Ray Lynn Bronaugh and wife Alma and Randy Bronaugh and wife Judy, all of Carrollton, TX, Rodney Bronaugh and wife Judy of Paola, KS and Richard Bronaugh and wife Leslie of Lincoln, NE; one sister: Jeaneen Bowlin and husband Chuck, of Emporia, KS; three brothers: Jerry and Bruce Bronaugh of Maple Hill, KS and Pat Bronaugh of Ada, OK; one sister-in-law: Maxine Bronaugh of Maple Hill, KS; daughter-in-law: Susan Bronaugh of St. Marys, KS. Seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Buck was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John.
Funeral services for Mr. Bronaugh will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011, at 10:30am at the First United Methodist Church of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. Buck will lie in-state beginning at 1:00pm Thursday, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, where family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
