Everett Joseph Budenbender, 81, of St. George died early Monday morning July 2, 2007 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
Born on June 25, 1926 in Bigelow, Kansas, he was the son of Joseph and Emma (Lipps-Bowmaker) Budenbender. He attended and graduated from Cleburne High School in 1941. Everett then enlisted with the Merchant Marines and proudly served his country with the United States Coast Guard. On December 28, 1975, he married Colleen Burrow and the couple made their home in St. George. Everett was employed with Goodyear for many years before retiring in 1988. He was confirmed and baptized at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Blue Rapids as a young man and later attended Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. Everett was a 4H Leader in St. George and a member of the American Legion Post #17.
His survivors include: his wife, Colleen of the home; his daughters, Laura Diane and Barbara Jean; his step-daughter Haddie (Burrow-Kiernan) Adams and her husband Chris of Apax, NC; his step-son, Frank Burrow and wife Rita of Louisburg, KS; his sister, Eunice Perusic of Houston, TX; his brother Richard Budenbender and wife Elizabeth of Frankfort, KS; his seven grandchildren, Sean, Jarrod, Megan, Aaron, Tyler, Aaron, and Les; and his three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, and Isaac. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Everett was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard and a sister Regina.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Seven Dolores Catholic Church in Manhattan with burial following in St. Columbkille’s Catholic Cemetery in Blaine, Kansas. A rosary will be said Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, with visitation following until 8:30 p.m. He will lie in-state at the funeral home starting at 1:00 p.m. Friday. A memorial has been established in Everett’s name with the American Heart Association and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home P.O. Box 48, Wamego 66547.
