Harold L. Niedfeldt

Harold L. Niedfeldt, 70, of McFarland, KS, formerly of the Wells Creek community, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka. Harold was born May 16, 1941 in Wamego, KS the son of Emil D. and Mae Irene (Rickstrew) Niedfeldt. He attended the Wells Creek District 34 grade school and graduated from Wamego High School in 1959. Following high school, he began work as a truck driver, mainly transporting cattle for local feedlots and ranchers for over 20 years. He also drove for Pipe and Steel of Manhattan for several years. In 1984 he left the many miles of road traveled to start working as a custodian at Saint George schools for 10 years, and also worked at Morton Motors in Wamego for a short time before working as the custodian at Wabaunsee High School thru 2003. Harold retired in June of 2011 after working in Wamego at Dekat’s CarQuest. He was a past member of Faith Community Church of Wells Creek, of which he has very active, and volunteered on the church sausage dinner committee for many years. On April 18, 1981, Harold married Mary Kay McConnell in Rossville, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughter, Michelle Irene Luella Niedfeldt Cole, of Wamego, KS; a sister, Prudence Fager (Larry), of Manhattan; two aunts, Mary Niedfeldt and Margret Niedfeldt, both of Wamego, KS; two uncles, Don Breymeyer of Alma, KS and Arthur Wille, Wamego, KS; two brothers in-law, Clifford VanBleck, Topeka, KS, Billy McConnell, Manhattan, KS; one sister in-law, Laura Thomas, Topeka, KS. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thelbert Niedfeldt, and a son in-law, Gerad Cole (August 7, 2011). Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego with the Rev. Rick Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Wells Creek Cemetery. Mr. Niedfeldt will lie in-state at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will greet friends during visitation from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Faith Community Church of Wells Creek, or, American Heart Assoc. and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
