George Joseph Muckenthaler, 87, of Kettering, Ohio, and formerly of the McFarland, Kansas area, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 in Ohio.
George was born August 18, 1924, in McFarland, KS, the son of Louis and Clara (Stork) Muckenthaler. He grew up in Paxico, KS. After high school George served in the 11th Army Division, 491 Battalion, B Battery during WWII and witnessed General George Patton directing traffic as portrayed in the movie. George then obtained a BS in Electrical Engineering and Business from Kansas State University, followed by a Degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Tulsa Law School. He retired from NCR after serving 22 years as a Senior Patent Attorney, and also served as President of the Dayton Patent Law Association. On October 6, 1951, George married Cecilia (Weixelman) Muckenthaler, in Flush, KS. She survives of the home in Kettering.
For the last several years, he has enjoyed his retirement assisting at Emmanuel Catholic Church, and playing golf at NCR Country Club.
Mr. Muckenthaler is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Cecilia; two sons: Stan and wife Sue of Wamego, KS and John and wife Kim of Kettering, OH; one daughter: Theresa Garcia of Flower Mound, TX; four grandchildren: Angie, Joey, Mary and Katie; and his siblings: Leona and Jim Dickenson of Newark, OH, Florian and Betty Muckenthaler of West Bridgewater, MA and Ann and Mike Quaney of Wichita, KS. George was preceded in death by his brothers: Earl, Steve and Marvin Muckenthaler.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation for George will be held prior to the service, at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, at Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Weixelman Family Scholarship at Kansas State University or the Make a Wish Foundation and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
