Catherine ”Kay” Alma Sultzer, 83, of Wamego, Kansas passed away peacefully September 23, 2011 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born July 11, 1928 to Francis T. and Florence E (Preble) Bradley in Leavenworth, Kansas. She had four siblings preceding her in death; Thomas, Francis, Mary (Smith), and Leo Bradley.
Kay is survived by her children: Leslie Einsig, Wamego and significant other Michael Carlyle; David and Barbara O’Reilly, Springfield, Ohio; Robert and Lorinda Sultzer Jr., Wamego; Mark and Elizabeth Sultzer, Manhattan, and son-in-law Sherman Reed. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Reed, Manchester, Tennessee.
Kay loved spending time with her 5 children, 10 grandchildren; John, Cliff, Caryn, Michael, Dylan, Bobby, Lyle, Jason, Erica, and Trina , 18 great grandchildren; Jessica, Brandon, Carrisa, Kaytlyn, Cierra, Harley, Miranda, Sammie, Savannah, Jacob, Madeline, Gracie, Delaney, Briana, Martin, Evan, Shamara, Trenton and had 1 great great grandchild, Bryson born in July. She was also a mother and grandmother to her extended family of many friends at church, work and in the community. She was a homemaker, managed the Snack Bar at Southwest Lanes in Topeka, office assistant at Clinton State Park and worked at Lincoln Lanes in Wamego until she was 82. She was an avid bowler, hobbyist (ceramics, crocheting and embroidery) and reader. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wamego, loved volunteering at the Columbian Theater and was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Kay was a breast cancer survivor for 12 years.
A memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled at 2:00pm on October 2, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wamego, Kansas. Private inurnment will be at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery with her late husband Msgt Robert L Sultzer. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the building fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 601 Elm, Wamego, Kansas 66547.
