Laurence Archie Clark

WAMEGO - Laurence Archie Clark, 94, Wamego, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Wamego City Hospital. Dr. Clark was born on September 9, 1912, at Rush Center, Kansas, the son of Fritz Elwood Clark and Emma (Feaster) Clark. He graduated from Larned High School in 1930. In 1938, he graduated from the University of Kansas and KU Medical School in 1942. He had a family practice in Wamego for many years. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII as a doctor and surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. He attained the rank of captain and was discharged in 1946. He married Florence “Aldean” Botkin on December 31, 1951 at Wichita, Kansas. She survives. Dr. Clark was a member of the American Medical Association and the Sedgewick County Medical Assocation. He was also a member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the International Charolais Cattle Association. He was an avid KU basketball fan and enjoyed working with his cattle. He loved his work helping people as a doctor. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Along with his wife, Aldean, he is survived by two sons, Fritz Clark and his wife, Jan, Topeka and L. A. Clark and his wife, Brenda, Belton, Missouri; one daughter, Lauren Kaine, Seoul, South Korea; a sister, Fannie Watkins, Dumas, Texas; five grandchildren: Amy, Adam, Emily, Holly and Eric and five great-grandchildren: Austin, Brittney, Andrew, Christopher and Lucas. Funeral services for Dr. Clark will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 27 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego with Rev. Fritz Clark officiating. Burial will follow at the Wamego City Cemetery. He will lie in-state at the funeral home on Thursday after 1:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends at a visitation from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Clark’s name to the Wamego Community Health Ministries for medical services and they may be left in the care of the Stewart Funeral Home, P. O. Box 48, Wamego, KS, 66547.
