Harlan Edward Clark, 70, of the Lake Elbo community near Manhattan, KS passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012, at the Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan, KS.
Harlan was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on April 12, 1941, the son of Louis and Margorie “Margie” (McElfresh) Clark. He attended schools in St. Joseph, graduating from Central High School in 1959.
On October 12, 1961, Harlan married Anita J. Bottorff-Bennett in St. Joseph, Missouri, she survives of the home. Harlan began working as a parts manager for Miller Chevrolet in St. Joseph in 1961 until 1967, when he and Anita moved to the Lake Elbo community. In 1967 he began working at Brewer Motors in Manhattan as a parts manager as well until 1971. While working at Brewer Motors he also worked as a reserved volunteer police officer for the Manhattan Police Department for a few years. Harlan then began working at McCall Pattern Company from 1971 until his retirement in 2006. After his retirement he went to work at Wendy’s where he was employee of the year in 2008. He enjoyed working there with his granddaughters and other kids where he was known as “Grandpa”. Harlan enjoyed going to his kids and grandkids sporting events. He loved sitting on his porch watching the wildlife and watching John Wayne movies. He most of all loved his time spent with his family.
Among his wife, Harlan is also survived by his three sons: Bill Bennett and wife Patty, Eddie Clark and wife Jana and Lonnie Clark and wife Eve, all of Manhattan; one sister: Judith Ferris and husband Richard of Yuma, AZ; seven granddaughters: Jessica and husband Darren of San Antonio, TX, Nicole and companion Brandon, Janai, Dionna, Kaylee, Faith and Kimberly all of Manhattan; one great-grandson: Hunter of Manhattan; one niece, Kim and one nephew, Ricky. He is also survived by the Hall and Peek Families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Margie.
Cremation has taken effect. Family is inviting everyone to a gathering to celebrate Harlan’s life on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lake Elbo Club House. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Harlan Clark Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
