On August 20, 1939, Doris married Thomas E. “Tom” Hart, in Baldwin City, Kansas. He survives of Westmoreland. After working for Pottawatomie County, she became a homemaker and enjoyed her brand new kitchen in the house she and Tom built after their marriage and lived in for 72 years.
Doris worked alongside her husband Tom in the family-owned business, Pottawatomie County Abstract Company. She was a member of the Westmoreland United Methodist Church and was quite active in women’s church organizations and served as president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. Doris was also a Sunday School teacher for many years and a Girl Scout leader. Doris enjoyed baking, doing needlework, feeding birds, tending to her flowers, traveling and camping - just enough to keep her family happy! Most of all she enjoyed taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
