Bonnie Beth (Stewart) Smith, 83, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
Bonnie was born March 7, 1929 in Morganville, Kansas the daughter of Vernon M. and Verona F. (Lakin) Stewart. She attended schools in McDowell Creek, Chapman and Wamego. Bonnie was united in marriage to Dick Smith on October 4, 1945 in Abilene, Kansas. He survives of the home.
Bonnie worked for 34 years as a cook for the Wamego School District and was also an excellent farm wife and loved raising sheep. She enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling. She also loved to cook family dinner’s, especially fried chicken. In her past time she loved sewing, crocheting, gardening, playing cards and bingo. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Among her husband other survivors include her daughter: Jeanie Lowry, of Wamego, Kansas; one son: Ric Smith and wife Joyce of Wamego, Kansas; one sister: Betty Riffel, of Abilene, Kansas; one brother: Dwayne Stewart and wife Susie, of Wamego, Kansas; 6 grandchildren: Lorren Hill and wife Jill, Michelle Kennedy and husband Jim, Jeff Hill and wife Kim, Christine Oxner and husband J.C., Stephanie Smith and Kevin and Scott Smith; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers and one son-in-law.
Funeral services for Bonnie will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego with Pastor Jol Klein officiating. Burial will follow at the Wabaunsee Township Cemetery. Bonnie will lie in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Monday followed by a visitation with family from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. all at Stewart Funeral Home.
