Claude Arlo Goad

Westmoreland- Claude “Arlo” Goad, 80, passed away Saturday morning September 8, at Westmoreland Community Care Home. Born on April 23, 1927, in Hill City, Kansas, he was the son of Laura (Saunders) and U.Q. Goad. Claude served on a merchant ship until the legal age of enlistment then promptly joined the United States Army. He served for the Occupation of Germany, then the Korean Conflict and also Vietnam. He faithfully served his country for 23 years before retiring from the military at Fort Riley in 1967. On April 25, 1947, Claude married the love of his life, Helen Hoffman. The couple was married nearly sixty years when Helen passed away late last year. After retiring from the army, Claude operated HMI, a business in Commerce City Colorado that sold cement mixers and parts. He worked for many years at HMI before finally retiring. The couple then made their home in Wamego. Survivors include: his daughters, Dora Tebbutt and husband Wayne of St. George, KS, Susan Jones and husband J.J. of Manhattan, KS, and Donna Nutter of St. George; his sisters Marna Varner of Arvada, Colorado and Bobbie Weatherall of Commerce City, Colorado; his eight grandsons, Lee Tebbutt and wife Michelle, Scott Tebbutt and wife Ginger, Kit Tebbutt, Troy Jones and wife Wendy, Jay Dee Tebbutt and wife Nikki, Damian Jones, Jim Tebbutt and wife Brenda, and Jason Nutter; his one granddaughter, Jennifer Hinkson and her husband Jason; his three great-granddaughters, and nine great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his dear wife Helen, Claude was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, one granddaughter, and his son-in-law Jerry Nutter. A memorial service will be Friday September 14, at 10:30 a.m., at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Inurnment with full military honors will follow in St. George Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the memorial services at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. There will be no evening visitation. A memorial has been set up in Claude’s name for the Dementia Unit at Westmoreland Community Care Home and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
