Viola "Jean" Bliss

Viola “Jean” Bliss, 87, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center in Wamego. Jean was born January 8, 1925, in Kansas City, Kansas, the only child of William E. and Josephine (Buckingham) Fountain. She attended schools in Kansas City, graduating from Wyandotte High in 1943. On March 6, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Norman Carl Bliss. He preceded her in death in 1990. Jean worked as a Laboratory Technician for the Wamego Medical Clinic for 34 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Wamego Chapter 76 of Order of Eastern Star, the First Baptist Church of Wamego, Wamego Senior Center, Wamego Past Matron’s & Patrons, Widow to Widow Support Group and the Wamego Historical Society. Jean loved attending church and O.E.S. and often volunteered at her church. She enjoyed reading books and taking walks in her rose garden. She was also a collector for violets, bells, and angels. Jean is survived by her son: Larry Bliss and wife Cherie, of Kansas City, MO; two daughters: Brenda Mealman of Topeka, KS and Bonnie Wiles and husband John of Fayetteville, AR; 6 grandchildren: Melissa Mayfield, Sasha Mealman, Sarah Wilkins, Jennifer Robinson, Katie Wehr, and John Bradley Wiles, and one great-grandson: Manning Mayfield. Funeral services for Jean will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Wamego, with Rev. Jim Kiker officiating. Burial will follow at the Wamego City Cemetery. Jean will lie in-state from 1:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. The family will greet friends with a luncheon at the church following the funeral services and burial.
