Mary Alice (O’Dell) Brown, 80, of Alma, Kansas, passed away, Thursday April 26, 2012 at Stormont-Vail HealthCare, in Topeka, Kansas.
Mary was born October 9, 1931, in Red Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Lee K. and Alice T. (Weilmana) O’Dell. She attended schools in Red Oak. In 1964, Mary and her children moved to McFarland, Kansas. On January 7, 1968, in Paxico, Kansas, Mary was united in marriage to Clarence Brown. He preceded her in death in 2005.
Mary was a CNA and activities director at the Alma Manor Nursing Home for 34 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, McFarland. She loved playing dominos and dice. Mary loved watching wrestling on television and enjoyed word searches, fishing and going to yard sales. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by one daughter: Shirley TenEyck and husband Larry, of McFarland, KS; one son: Harry “Butch” Neligh and wife Marilyn, of Red Oak, IA; four step-daughters: Arlene, Joyce, Carolyn and Donna; one brother: Jerry O’Dell, of TX; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Among her husband Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Jim and Raymond O’Dell and two nephews: Jimmy and Ryan O’Dell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, McFarland, with Pastor Ron Rather officiating. Burial will follow in the McFarland Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation for Mary will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Alma. The family is asking that everyone dress casual to celebrate Mary’s life.
