Elmer L. Brazzle

Elmer L. Brazzle, 81, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas. Elmer was born November 30, 1930 in Junction City, Kansas to Walter M. and Georgetta (Johnston) Brazzle. He grew up and attended schools in the Louisville and Wamego areas. Elmer joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his military service, he returned home where he met Phyllis Mae Jenkins. They were united in marriage on June 11, 1953, in Westmoreland, KS. She survives of the home. Elmer worked as a stone cutter for over 40 years for three different stone companies including both Lardner Stone of Topeka, KS and Bayer Stone in St. Marys, KS where he worked for 27 years before retiring. He won two awards from the Kansas Architectural Society for doing stone work on both the Grace Cathedral in Topeka, KS and the Dillon’s House in Hutchinson, KS. Elmer was a past member of the American Legion. He loved woodworking, gardening and doing crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed quail hunting and fishing. Most importantly he loved spending time with his grandkids. Other survivors include nine daughters: Mary Tucker (Rick) of Salina, KS, Vickie Reed of Wamego, Chris Brazzle of Wamego, Patty Salfrank (Tod) of Wamego, Jennifer Brazzle of Wamego, Jackie Ayscue (Shane) of Henderson, NC, Beth Brazzle of Wamego, Rachel Brazzle of Wamego and Helen King (Chris) of Wamego; four sons: Mike Brazzle (Lorita) of Madison, KS, Steve Brazzle (Tammy) of Manhattan, KS, David Brazzle (Cara) of Wamego and Joe Brazzle (Heather) of Keats, KS; one brother: John Brazzle of Wamego; one sister: Shirley Roudybush (Leonard) of Onaga, KS; 40 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Cynthia Harris; an infant son: Anthony James Brazzle; four brothers: Walter Jr., Bobby, Dean and William Brazzle; two sisters: Wilma Tyson and Darlene Washburn; a son in-law: Ron Reed and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Brazzle will be held at 10: 30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow at the St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Elmer will lie in-state beginning at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Stewart Funeral Home with family greeting friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Elmer Brazzle Memorial Fund, to be designated later and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
