Cleona Weixelman, 82, passed away early Monday morning September 24, at Wamego City Hospital.
Born on October 31, 1924, in Wamego, Kansas, she was the daughter of William “Leonard” and Marion (Teeter) Stewart. She attended Wamego schools and graduated from Wamego High school in 1942. On March 26, 1945, Cleona married Louis Weixelman at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Flush, Kansas. Louis preceded her in death on August 18, 2006.
Cleona was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, St. Bernard’s Women’s Guild and Altar Society, Legion of Mary, the Wamego American Legion Auxiliary, and Wamego Senior Citizen’s Center. She volunteered as a Cottonwood 4H leader for many years and was a member of the Cottonwood Extension Homemakers Unit. She was especially proud to volunteer at the Community Health Ministry Food Pantry, where they recently named the food pantry “Cleo’s Kitchen” in her honor.
Survivors include: her two sons, Richard Weixelman and wife Teresa of Wamego, KS, and Robert Weixelman and wife Sandra of Manhattan, KS; her two daughters, Donna Johnson and husband Don of Wamego, KS, and Renae Ginavan and husband Don of Alma, KS; her sister, Frances A. Bishop and husband Guy of Topeka, KS; her brothers, Leroy Stewart of Wamego, KS, William L. Stewart of Topeka, KS, and Carl L. Stewart and wife Jenie of St. Augustine, FL; her ten grandchildren, Tim Weixelman, Audra Weixelman, Julie Hudson, Lori Rice, Derek Weixelman, Amanda Janulis, Kyle, Trisha, Codi, and Denise Ginavan; and four great grandchildren, Noah Bailey, Phoenix and Tanner Weixelman, and Kylie Rice. She was also preceded in death by one bother Jack Stewart.
Memorials are suggested to the Wamego Community Health Ministry or to the St. Bernard’s Church Building Fund, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547.
