Henry Joseph Sunnenberg, 67, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at his residence in Wamego.
Henry was born February 20, 1945, in Axtell, Kansas the son of Harry F. and Elizabeth W. (Thomas) Sunnenberg. He attended schools in Baileyville and Seneca, graduating from St. Peter & Paul High School in 1963. After high school Henry worked at Steel & Pipe Supply in Manhattan, Kansas from 1963-1972. He then worked for Kansas State University as a custodian for 28 years until his retirement.
Henry enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, wrestling and country music. He loved playing horseshoes for many years. He was a big Dodger’s fan since he was a little boy and was an avid KSU football and basketball fan. He attended the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego.
Henry is survived by four sisters: Josephine Wiggins of Manhattan, Anne Slack of Wamego, Vera “Roberta” Ross and husband Ken of Wamego and Rita Chauza of Douglas, NE; three brothers: Jerome Sunnenberg of Joplin, MO, Don Sunnenberg of Wamego and Vince Sunnenberg of Arkansas City, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother: Johnny Michael Sunnenberg; two sisters: Oscarine Sunnenberg and Alma Simmons and his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego, with Fr. John Pilcher. Burial will follow in the St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Henry will lie in-state beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m., followed by a visitation with family until 8:00 p.m. all at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego.
