Lyman "Cloyde" Welter

April 24, 1924 — May 19, 2012

Lyman “Cloyde” Welter, 88, a lifetime resident of the Wamego, Kansas area, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Westy Community Care Home. Cloyde was born April 24, 1924 on the family farm near Flush, Kansas, the son of Edward and Elsie (Tibbetts) Welter. He attended King rural grade school and graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1943. He then entered the Merchant Marines serving in WWII as a seaman. After his discharge he then worked with his father on the farm for a few years before working for Wamego Telephone Company as a lineman and then at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka for 34 years until his retirement. Cloyde was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wamego, a past member of Westmoreland United Methodist Church and the Pleasant Run Methodist Church, and was a member of United Rubber Workers Union #307. He enjoyed nature, being outdoors, and he loved to farm. He also enjoyed his work and friendships developed at Goodyear. Cloyde was united in marriage to Viola Mae Lee on May 1, 1948 in Holton, Kansas. She survives of their home. Survivors also include his son, Randy Welter and his wife Elizabeth, of Wamego; three daughters: Elda Seener and her husband Tom, of Washington, Missouri, Marcy Matson of Seneca, Kansas, Karen Arace and her husband Nick, of Olathe, Kansas; one brother, Paul Welter and wife Lillian, of Kearney, Nebraska; one sister, Margaret Sebring of Kansas City, Missouri; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Welter will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of the service. Memorials are suggested to the Westy Community Care Home and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
