Betty Jo Tauer

Betty Jo Tauer, 73, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 at her home. Betty was born July 31, 1938 in Camden, New Jersey, the daughter of Willis L. and Violet M. (Berry) Estlow. Betty graduated from Boulder High School in Boulder, Colorado in 1956 before attending the School of Pharmacy at the University of Colorado, where she graduated in 1960. Betty married Leo Edward Tauer on June 26, 1960 in Wamego, Kansas. He survives of the home. Betty worked at Wamego Drug Store in the late 1950’s and then began working in St. Mary’s at Kinderknecht Drug Store from the mid 1960’s to the late 1980’s. Betty then went to work at Mercy Hospital until her retirement in 2000. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wamego where she served on many church committees, she served as a board member of the Wamego Public Library for eight years and was active in 4-H. Betty’s church was a very important part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren and loved attending musical performances. Betty is also survived by one son: Tim Tauer, of Topeka, KS; one daughter: Mindy Moore and husband Scott of Windsor, CO; one brother: Edward Estlow and wife Lisa of Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren: Garret, McKenna, Dawson, Cereasa, Dustin and Jordan and three great-grandchildren: Michael, Jace and Brysen. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Jack Estlow and one sister: Suzanne Corbett. Funeral services for Betty will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Wamego. Burial will follow at Wamego City Cemetery. Betty will lie in-state from 1:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday, at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. Betty’s casket will remain closed throughout services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Wamego Public Library and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547, Wamego, KS.
