Manhattan- Grace (Scritchfield) Sullivan, 77, of Manhattan, Kansas and formerly of Westmoreland, Kansas, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday morning October 14, 2007. She was being cared for by her daughter Pam and the staff at Homecare Hospice.
Grace was born March 24, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Silvia Scritchfield and Loren Herbert Whan III. Grace was raised by her grandparents Jesse and Anna Scritchfield in Manhattan, Kansas. She attended school in Manhattan, except for a year and a half that she was in Montana. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1947.
Grace was married to Rollin Lee Williams in Junction City, Kansas on July 13, 1947. They were married for 53 years. She traveled extensively with Rollin during his career with British Petroleum. Rollin preceded her in death on December 25, 2000.
She is survived by one daughter, Pam Williams of Alvin, Texas; one grandson, Bill Prosser of Alvin, Texas; one granddaughter, Felicia Prosser of Arlington, Texas; five great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter of Texas; and two nephews and one niece of North Carolina. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Grace married Larry B. Sullivan on June 22, 2006. He survives of the home. He has two daughters, Liz Krieger and Jane Cline of Kansas City, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Grace was a remarkable pianist. For the last two years, Grace performed weekly for the residents and staff at Homestead and Stoneybrook nursing facilities in Manhattan. She had also performed for conventions, schools, Shriners, K-State Housing and Dining, Westmoreland Service Club, Westmoreland Christian Church and many weddings and funerals.
Grace was a substitute teacher in California. She also worked briefly at K-State as a Research Assistant in Chemistry in 1947. She had been a speaker for Women’s Aglow Seminars and was always active in the churches she attended. She did oil paintings for children’s rooms and sold them for 8 years. She was a professional seamstress and designed and sold clothing for 35 years. She also did interior decorating for herself and others. Grace used every opportunity to witness for our Savior, Jesus Christ and gave all the glory to God for her gifts and talents. Her greatest wish was to let everyone know that God loves them and to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. He is the same today as before, and always will be.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2007, at 1st Assembly of God Church in Manhattan. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery. She will lie in-state from 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, where her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. for a visitation.
