St. George- Evelyn D. Arehart, 80, of Rural St. George, Kansas, died October 14, 2007, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.
She was born May 5, 1922, in Kansas City, MO. She was adopted in infancy by Cliff Drake and LeVanchie Maude (Eggleston) Drake of Memphis, MO. She attended high school in Memphis, MO. On June 1, 1947, Evelyn married Bob Arehart in Kirksville, MO. He survives of the home.
Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wamego. She worked for the US Navy Department in Washington, DC during World War II. She later worked as a secretary at Kansas State University, and in later years, reupholstered furniture as a business. Her favorite hobbies were playing bridge, traveling and genealogy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Other survivors include two children: a daughter, Barbara Jane Williams and husband, Ted, of Olathe, KS, a son, Michael J. Arehart and his companion, Mary Lynn Alberry, of Omaha, NE; one sister, Marilee Shogren and husband, Merle, of Manhattan, KS; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, a daughter, Trudy Lynn Arehart, and a son, Stephen Dean Arehart.
Mrs. Arehart requested to be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2007, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Inurnment will follow in Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.
