Delbert Henry Eichman, 82, of rural St. George, Kansas passed away Monday, July 23, 2012, at Stormont-Vail HealthCare, in Topeka, Kansas.
Delbert was born on July 26, 1929 in Wamego, Kansas the son of Edward J. and Anna (Lux) Eichman. He attended school in Flush, graduating from Flush High School in 1947. After high school Delbert enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the military he returned home. Delbert farmed the family farm with his father and brothers. He was a farmer until his retirement several years ago. On May 28, 1982, Delbert was united in marriage to Carol Ann Torrey at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Flush. She survives of the home.
Delbert was a board member for PR&W, which is now Bluestem Electric Coop from 1989-2010. He was a trustee with the Kansas Electric Coop from 2003 – 2009 and was on the parish council at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he had also served as president. Delbert was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Flush Knights of Columbus #902, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post #260 and the VFW-Manhattan, Post #1786. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and reading.
Among Delbert’s other survivors are his two stepsons: Christopher Higgins and wife Angela of Carl Junction, MO and Mark Higgins and wife Shelly of Shawnee, KS; two brothers: James Eichman and wife Mildred of Flush, KS and Emil Eichman and wife Carol of Flush, KS; two sisters: Margaret Hunt and husband Leon of Peyton, CO and Alice Gereau and husband Ed of Manhattan, KS and two grandchildren: Dylan and Emily. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Flush, with Fr. John Pilcher. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Delbert will lie in-state beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday with a visitation being held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m., all at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS, 66547.
