Robert Laurie Linton, 92, passed away Thursday October 17th, 2007 at St. Mary’s Manor.
He was born on January 11, 1915 in Jamestown, Kansas, the son of George W. and Oda Dell (Smith) Linton. Most of the family moved to Oregon in 1925 and he attended school in Portland and graduated at Willamina High in 1932. Bob worked in the lumber industry until 1935 when he attended a trade school in Portland for automotive and diesel engineering. He then returned to Wamego in 1937 and was employed by Daylor Motors as parts manager for over 35 years except for in 1942 when he worked at the North American Bomber Plant in Kansas City. On June 27, 1942, Bob was united in marriage to Margaret Dora Fischer. In 1964, the couple purchased the New Look Motel and changed the name to Linton Motel. They later sold the motel to their daughter in 1978.
Bob was a member of the Methodist Church, a past member of the Wamego Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the Wamego Country Club. Golf had been his hobby since 1957.
His survivors include: his wife Dora of the home; his daughter Janet K. DeBord and husband Jim of Wamego; his two sons Jerry Linton and wife Joan of Bloomington, Indiana and Robert E. Linton and wife Ellen of Ozawkie, Kansas; his four grandchildren, Dawn DeBord, Robert DeBord, Tien and Laurel Linton; and his four great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by all six of his siblings.
Graveside Inurnment Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday October 26th at Wamego City Cemetery. The family will hold a memorial gathering at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to services. Memorials have been designated with the Wamego Senior Citizen’s Center or the United Methodist Church and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, 66547.
