Dale Anthony Ebert, 58, of rural Wamego, KS, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2007, following his illness with cancer.
He was born on July 12, 1949 in Manhattan, KS, the son of Clyde J. and “Jerry” Geraldine (Dekat) Ebert. He attended grade school and three years of high school in Flush, KS, and his final year of high school at Wamego High School, graduating in 1967. On August 5, 1972, Dale married Cynthia “Cindy” Northup at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. She survives of the home.
Dale worked as a construction equipment operator for several years following school, starting at Ebert Construction Company and then at Hamm Construction for a few years. He then worked at Wamego Skelgas for 24 years before working at E&R Machine in Wamego the last 7 years. He served as a volunteer firefighter for many years at Wamego Rural Fire District 7 and also the Louisville Township Fire Department, where he also served as the treasurer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush, where he was baptized and confirmed, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also attended St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego.
Survivors include his parents, Clyde and Jerry Ebert of Wamego, KS; his wife Cindy of Wamego, KS; his three children, Jennifer Soeken and her husband Brett, of Wamego, KS, Jess Ebert and his wife Susan, of Wamego, KS, and Jacquelyn Ebert, Lenexa, KS. Also surviving are three sisters, Nancy Leiker and her husband Curt, of St. George, KS, Patty Chrest and her husband Roger, Burdett, KS, Pam Bennett of Topeka, KS; two brothers, Danny Ebert and his wife Bev of Wamego, and Todd Ebert and his wife Janet, all of Wamego, KS; four grandchildren, Kinley and Kyler Soeken, and Ashton and Caden Ebert.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Flush, KS. with Fr. Carl Dekat as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m. Mr. Ebert will lie in-state at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Terry C. Johnson Center for Cancer Research at KSU, or to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church of Wamego, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, 66547.
