Clyde "Pete" Peterson

Clyde W. “Pete” Peterson, 89, passed away November 19th at Wamego City Hospital. Born on October 2, 1918 in Junction City, Kansas, he was the son of Elmer N. and Mae (Bryant) Peterson. He attended Junction City Schools and graduated from Junction City High School. Pete served his country in the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge he worked as an agent telegrapher with Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years. He was a member of the Military Amateur Radio Service, Amateur Radio Relay League, a member of the Church of Nazarene of Manhattan, Kansas, and the Brotherhood of Airline and Railroad Clerks Union (B.A.R.C). On September 30, 1950, he married Marcile M. Sturdevant in Gaylord, Kansas. They lived in Abilene, KS from 1951 until moving to Wamego in 1961. Pete enjoyed gardening and repairing things. He could fix anything. He also spent a lot of time on using his HAM radio. He was actively involved with his church and enjoyed his church family. His survivors include: his wife Marcile of the home; his daughter Jane Adams and husband Wesley of Grandview, MO; his son, Don Peterson and wife Helen of Eureka, KS; his sister, Esther Stevens of Junction City, KS; and his brothers, Lee Peterson of Topeka, KS, Paul Peterson of Sutter Creek, CA, and Kenneth Peterson of Oklahoma City, OK. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Leonard Peterson. Funeral services will be Friday November 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, with burial following in Wamego City Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation. A memorial has been designated in Clydes’ name for the Manhattan Church of the Nazarene Building Fund and contributions may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
