Orland Lee Rosell, 76, a longtime resident of Wamego, KS, passed away Sunday morning, October 14, 2012 at the Westmoreland Community Care Home.
Orland was born February 5, 1936, at his home in Rural Riley County, Kansas, the son of Roland Edward Rosell and Edith Amelia (Pickett) Rosell. He attended school in Randolph, KS, and graduated from Randolph High School in 1954. He married Carolyn Burkman in 1956, they later divorced. In 1984, he then married Francis Sackrider whom preceded Orland in death while married. On September 15, 1998, Orland married Lavon Rector. She survives of the home.
Orland worked almost his entire career at K.D.O.T. based in Wamego for 42 years. He was the Area Superintendent for the last several years of his work for K.D.O.T. He enjoyed his memberships in the Topeka Shriner’s Arab Temple, the Free Masons, First Baptist Church of Wamego, Wamego Senior Center, FNB Legacy Club, and KVB Heritage Club.
Orland always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Lavon to South Texas for the winters, playing friendly jokes on others, building and repairing just about anything, and loved his pets, especially his Yorkie.
He is also survived by his two daughters: Debra Engler (Kelly), of Topeka, KS, Amy Reifsteck (Bill), Powell, OH; two sons: Orland Rosell, Jr. (Pam), of Great Falls, MT, Edward Rosell (Karla), Wamego, KS; three step-daughters: Sharla Gamino, of Wamego, KS, Lorinda Hanes (Joe), Wamego, KS, Carla Gnadt (Mark), of Alma, KS; one step-son: Eugene Ragan, Ellis, KS; a sister, Martha Snyder of Topeka, KS; 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 18 step-grandchildren, and 22 step-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his sister Karin Long and a step-son, Dan Clanton.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. Mr. Rosell will lie-in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, with visitation from 7:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home.
