LuEtta M. Wapp, 79, of Topeka, formerly a longtime resident of Frankfort and Marysville, KS, passed away Monday, December 24, 2007 at Stormont-Vail Health Care in Topeka.
LuEtta was born December 3, 1928 on her family’s farm near Olsburg, KS, the daughter of John Frank Manthe and Elsie (Kastner) Manthe. She attended schools in Fostoria, KS and graduated from Fostoria High School. On October 15, 1947, she married John David Wapp, Jr. at Blaine, KS. He preceded her in death in 1991.
She was a homemaker, but also worked most of her life. She worked at the restaurant in Frankfort as a cook for several years, worked as a nanny for families in Frankfort, and also worked at the Frankfort Community Care Home. Most recently, she worked for the Kansas Neurological Institute’s Foster Grandparent Program for several years. She had been a member of the Marysville F.O.E. Women’s Guild and volunteered as a Marshall County 4H Leader for many years.
Survivors include her four daughters, Phyllis Simmons, and her husband Mike, of Frankfort, KS, Betty Wapp of Topeka, KS, Mary Abitz, and her husband Loren, of Wheaton, KS, Diana Floyd, and her husband Tom, Topeka, KS; one brother, Lloyd Manthe, of Wamego, KS; one sister, Susan Wagner, and husband Ralph, of Gladstone, MO; 8 grandchildren, Brian McNulty, Dawn Murray, Amy Rucker, Lance Abitz, Liz Abitz, Brook Abitz, Taylor and Jordan Floyd; 1 step-grandson, Jim Simmons; and 6 great-grandchildren, Garett, Keigan, MacKenzie, Dagan, Bryna, and Shaya. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard in 2004.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2007, at the Westmoreland City Cemetery. Mrs. Wapp will lie in-state at the Stewart Funeral Chapel of Westmoreland beginning at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, where the family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in LuEtta’s name to the Marshall County Headstart Program
