Carter Eugene Bailey

Carter Eugene Bailey, 79, of Westmoreland, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2007 at the Westmoreland Community Care Home. Carter was born on October 30, 1928 in Caruthersville, MO, the son of Claude and Lorene (Carter) Bailey. He attended grade school in Caruthersville, and graduated from McKinley High School in St. Louis, MO in 1947. Following high school, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. He served his country from 1948 until retiring in 1968 at the rank of Master Gunnery Sgt. During this time, Carter served in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. He received numerous decorations and four separate Good Conduct medals. He was very proud to have served his country in the Marines. Carter married LaVon Marie Pfrang on September 6, 1958 in Kingsland, GA. Together they moved to Westmoreland in 1977. He was an active member of the Westmoreland VFW and American Legion. He went to work at KSU as a Police Officer where he retired from after 20 years in 1989. LaVon preceded him in death in 1984. Survivors include one daughter, Paula Spacil and her husband Steve, of Lees Summit, MO; two sons, Rick Bailey and his wife Deana, of Wichita, KS, Jim Bailey and his wife Kim, of Wheaton, KS; one sister, Maxine Love, Garland, TX; a brother, Roy Lee Bailey of Malden, MO; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Claudette Boney. Funeral services will be held at 10:30a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Westmoreland United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the Westmoreland Cemetery. Mr. Bailey will lie in-state beginning at 2:00p.m. Friday at the Stewart Funeral Chapel of Westmoreland, with a visitation from 6:00 until 8:30p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Westmoreland VFW
