Walter Carroll Siebert

Walter “Walt” C. Siebert, 82, resident of Wamego, died at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas Thursday, December 27, 2007. He was born on November 21, 1925 in Flush, Kansas, the son of Peter A. and Addie Isabelle (Umscheid) Siebert. Walter attended school in the Flush community and graduated from Flush High School in 1943. He served with the United States Army and the Naval Reserves Construction Battalion. On May 20, 1952, Walter married Ruth Ann Daylor in Wamego, Kansas. He worked for Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring after over 40 years of employment at the Wamego office. In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. Walter was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post 172 of Wamego, and the Wamego Country Club. He was an avid golfer and a tremendous husband, father, and grandfather. Walter is survived by his wife, Ruth Siebert of the home; his sons, Tony Siebert and wife Mary Kaye of Wamego, KS, Pete Siebert and wife Tess of Southlake, TX, and Chris Siebert and wife Sandy of Wamego, KS; his brother, Ron Siebert of Parker, CO; his nine grandchildren, Emily Warnes and husband Will, Lindsey Croley and husband Darren, Nicolas Siebert and wife Emily, Benjamin, Daniel, Austen, Casey, Megan, and Luke Siebert; and his two great-granddaughters, Ellienne and Adeline Warnes. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Teresa Ann and Susan Marie Siebert, two sisters and four brothers. Funeral Services for Walter will be Monday, December 31, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego with burial following in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. A rosary will be said on Sunday, December 30, at 7:00 p.m., at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with visitation until 9:00 p.m. He will lie in state on Sunday starting at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been designated in Walter’s name for the St. Bernard’s Church Building Fund. Contributions may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
