Crawford Wiley Taylor

Crawford Wiley “Slats” Taylor, 87, of Westmoreland, Ks, passed away Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Westmoreland Community Care Home. He was born in Louisville, Ks, May 5, 1920, the fourth child of seven, born to P. Wiley and Leverne (Travis) Taylor. He attended schools at the West Union Grade School south of Westmoreland and the Westmoreland High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army for four years in the Aleutians and Siapan. On January 6, 1945, Crawford married Dorene J. Dekat in Kansas City, Ks. She survives of the home. He worked mostly as a heavy equipment operator, working for local contractors, Pottawatomie County Road Maintenance Department, and helped construct the Tuttle Creek Dam. The time he spent with his wife and family were very important to him. He also enjoyed his favorite hobbies of fishing, hunting, and golf. Survivors also include his two sons, Bernard Taylor and his wife Carla, of Houston, Mo, Crawford W., Jr, “Buz” Taylor and his wife Linda, of Frankfort, Ks; his two daughters, Beth Brunkow, of St. George, Ks, Brenda Platt and her husband Riley, of Manhattan, Ks; three brothers, John Taylor, Westmoreland, Ks, Dean Taylor and wife Edna, of Westmoreland, Ks, Bill Taylor, Mesquite, Nevada; two sisters, Rita Snapp and husband Kenny, of Westmoreland, Ks, Rose Belle Nichols, of El Paso, Tx; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ben, and a sister, Helen. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego with Fr. Carl Dekat officiating. Burial will follow in Westmoreland City Cemetery. The family will greet friends during a time of visitation on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials are suggested to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
