Robert “Bob” Scott Burgess, 87, of rural Westmoreland, Kansas passed away Friday, November 2, 2012 at Golden Acres in Onaga, Kansas.
Bob was born in Union Township in Pottawatomie County, Kansas on October 19, 1925. He was the son of Thomas and Mabel (Scott) Burgess. He attended Wamego High School graduating in 1942. In 1946 he married Betty Sturm. From their marriage they had three children. They later divorced. Bob later married Lucille Jones, they later divorced.
Bob was a farmer and stockman and farmed the land passed down from his grandfather. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and dancing. He coached baseball and women’s softball. Bob was a big sports fan, he loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed taking children fishing. In more recent years he had his own firewood business.
Bob is survived by his two daughters: Barbara Harris of Kansas City, KS and Karen Meek and husband Ben of Manhattan, KS; one step-son: Duane Jones and wife Judy of Wamego, KS; four grandchildren: Brian Hoover and wife Danielle, Brent Hoover, Jenni Roney and husband Doug and Jileena Thiemann and husband Brian; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son: Robert Allen; one step-son: Ron Michels; two brothers: George and Charles and four sisters: Margaret, Mildred, Alice and Liz.
Funeral services for Mr. Burgess will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. Bob will lie in-state beginning at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Stewart Funeral Home with family greeting friends during a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
