Paul R. Sickels, 68, of Manhattan, KS, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012 at his home.
Paul was born May 26, 1944 in Athol, KS, the son of Arthur and Eloise (Carden) Sickels. He attended schools in Beloit, KS. Following school, Paul enlisted into the United States Navy in 1961 and retired from the Navy in 1982 after 21 years of active service. During his service, he saw action in the Vietnam War.
Paul was a quiet, but very observant man. He enjoyed time spent with his family during cookouts, family gatherings, and holidays. He cared for his family very much. Paul also had a daily routine of going to the mall and meeting friends for his mid-morning coffee.
He is survived by his aunts: Dorothy Swatzell of St. George, KS, Pat Eller of Warton, TX; a half-sister, Lorraine Schulte of Canyon City, CO; his cousins, Edwin Eller, Topeka, KS, Lynda Phillips and her husband Ron, St. George, KS, Debra Speirs and her husband Lewis, Alvin, TX, Bill Swatzell of St. George, KS; a niece, Jessica Mahaffey, and nephew, Jonathan Schulte, both of Canyon City, CO.
Mr. Sickels was cremated. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 at the St. George Cemetery. Friends and family will gather at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 1:30 p.m. where a presentation of Navy military honors will take place, followed by the procession to the cemetery.
