Donald Clayton Edgemon

Donald Clayton Edgemon, 78, a longtime resident of St. George, Kansas, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Mercy Regional Health Center of Manhattan. Donald was born January 13, 1934 in Hastings, Oklahoma, the son of Clifford A. and Bonnie M. (Cline) Edgemon. He attended schools in Comanche, Oklahoma. Following school, he enlisted into the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict before his honorable discharge. He married Virginia Gay Aldridge Swann on November 3, 1958 in Manhattan, Kansas. She survives of the home. Donald worked as a cement delivery truck driver for Kershaw Ready-Mix in Manhattan for 30 years until his retirement in 1996. He was a very hard worker, collected many different things and always saw things that he could salvage and make use of. He enjoyed visiting his family and trips to see them in Texas, and especially being with his grandkids. His survivors also include: his five sons, John Swann of Terrell, TX, Larry Swann and his wife Darlene of Wamego, KS, Bill Swann and his wife Shayla of Carrollton, TX, Don Edgemon and his wife Beverly of Cypress, TX, Steve Edgemon of St. George, KS; two sisters, Maydelene Rowell and husband Bill of Comanche, OK, Sylvia Hodges of McAllen, TX; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma June Edgemon. Mr. Edgemon was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Inurnment with military burial honors will be held at a later date in Lovejoy Cemetery, Lincoln County, West Virginia. Memorials are suggested to the Donald Edgemon Memorial to be designated later, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
