Kenneth “Kenny” Eugene Straub, 79, of Flush, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at the St. Francis Health Center in Topeka, after being surrounded by his loving family during his final hours.
Kenny was born November 29, 1933 on the family farm in rural Flush, Kansas, the son of Isadore A. and Loretta M. (Umscheid) Straub. He attended Flush High School graduating in 1952 where he was the valedictorian of his graduating class. Kenny enjoyed playing town team baseball in his younger years. He worked as a farmer and rancher his whole life and in his earlier years he worked part-time at the Flush store. Kenny enjoyed attending his nieces and nephews sporting events. He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #902. He loved spending time with his family and friends and he will be remembered for his great smile.
Kenny is survived by his two brothers: Earl Straub of Wamego, KS and Bob Straub and wife Janet of Topeka, KS; one sister: Dolores Ebert of Flush, KS; one sister-in-law: Margaret Straub of Kansas City, MO and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Wilfred; one infant brother: Bernard and one brother-in-law: Paul.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Flush, KS. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Kenny will lie in-state at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS, 66547.
