Shirley Mae (Twitty) Higuera, 71, of Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at Mercy Regional Health Center of Manhattan, Kansas.
Shirley was born April 2, 1941 in Palestine, Texas, the daughter of Edmond and Maggie (Lusk) Twitty. She attended schools in Texas where she earned a nursing degree as an L.P.N. after high school. She moved to Lawton, Oklahoma in 1977 where she worked as a cashier for Wal-Mart for over 20 years before retiring and moving to Westmoreland, Kansas in 2009 to be closer to her family. She married David P. Higuera, he preceded her in death.
Shirley loved reading and planting her rose gardens. She also enjoyed talking with other cancer survivors and being a part of cancer support groups.
She is survived by her two sons: Kenneth Higuera, of Westmoreland, KS and Brian Higuera and wife Tracy of Summerville, SC; one daughter: Susan Conder and husband Jesse, of Westmoreland, KS; four grandchildren: Clinton Higuera, Leslie (Allen) Shelton, Jenifer (Hollis) Conder and Josh (LaTisha) Conder and seven great-grandchildren: Marcus, Colby, Frank-Lee, Derrek, Korban, Korah and Evangeline. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother: Gordan.
Shirley was cremated. A private celebration of life for Shirley will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Shirley Higuera Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, KS, PO Box 48, 66547.
