Alma- Verna L. Myers, 93, beloved mother and grandmother, of Alma, KS, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.
Born on September 1, 1914 in Abilene, KS, she was the daughter of Buena (Lynn) and Avra E. Engle. She graduated from high school in Abilene in 1932. Verna married Howard C. Myers on April 29, 1939 in Emporia, KS. She was a loving wife and mother, and worked as a homemaker while assisting her husband in the cattle business. Her husband, Howard, preceded her in death in 1966.
Verna was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Alma, where she served as the Communion Steward for many years.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Myers of Glendale, Arizona, Gunile DeVault and her husband Jim, of Wamego, Kansas, Lynda Gass and her husband Larry, of Wichita, Kansas; one granddaughter, Alyson Snell of Wichita, Kansas. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Buena and Avra Engle, two brothers; Lyle and Donald Engle; and one sister, Estella Stark.
Funeral Services for Verna will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, at Alma United Methodist Church with burial following in Alma City Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday evening at Stewart Funeral Home in Alma from 6:30-8:00 p.m. She will lie in state at the funeral home Friday starting at 1:00 p.m. Memorials have been designated for the Alma Methodist Church or a charity of donor’s choice.
